You don't have to be in crisis to start

A lot of couples wait until things feel truly broken before reaching out. But couples therapy is just as useful for partners who want to invest in their relationship before it reaches that point, whether you are navigating a hard season, stuck in a recurring pattern, or simply want to build something stronger together.

If you are having the same fight over and over, feeling more like roommates than partners, working through a major breach of trust, or facing a life transition that is putting strain on the relationship: those are all real reasons to come in. So is "we're generally okay but we want to be better."

The hardest part is usually making the first call. After that, it gets easier.

How It Works

What sessions look like

Couples therapy with me is not about deciding who is right. My job is to help both of you feel heard, and to start seeing the patterns that keep pulling you back into the same place. Often the issue is not a single event or argument but the cycle underneath it.

Sessions are conducted online via telehealth, so marriage counseling in Chicago and across Illinois is available from home, no commute required. Both partners attend together, and the work is collaborative from the start. I won't take sides. I'll help you both understand what is happening between you and build something that actually works.

My approach is ACT-informed, rooted in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, which means we focus less on "winning" arguments and more on what actually matters to each of you, and how to move toward it together. I work with couples at all stages: those in acute conflict, those rebuilding after a serious breach of trust, and those doing proactive work before problems become entrenched. Wherever you are is a valid place to start.

What Brings Couples In

Common reasons to start couples therapy

  • Communication breakdown

Conversations that go nowhere, feeling unheard, or shutting down entirely. Therapy helps you build patterns that actually work.

  • Conflict & recurring arguments

The same fight, different day. Couples therapy helps identify the cycle underneath the conflict and interrupt it.

  • Emotional disconnection

Feeling more like roommates than partners. Therapy creates space to rebuild closeness and understand what has gotten in the way.

  • Infidelity & trust repair

Rebuilding after a betrayal is possible, but it takes real work. Therapy provides structure and safety for that process.

  • Life transitions

A new baby, relocation, career change, or loss can shift the dynamic in a relationship. Therapy helps you navigate it as a team.

  • Premarital counseling

Building a strong foundation before marriage. A good time to surface differences, align on values, and develop real communication skills.

FAQ

Common questions

Do you offer couples therapy online in Illinois?
Yes, all sessions are conducted via telehealth, so couples therapy is available to anyone in Illinois. Whether you are in Chicago, the suburbs, or anywhere else in the state, you can access sessions from home without a commute.
Do both partners need to attend every session?
In most cases, yes. Couples therapy works best when both partners are present. Occasionally an individual session may be useful as part of the process, but we can discuss what makes sense for your situation during the initial consultation.
How long does couples therapy take?
It depends on what you are working through. Some couples find meaningful progress in a few months; others choose to continue longer. We will check in regularly on how things are going and adjust the pace to what is working for you.
What is the difference between couples therapy and marriage counseling?
The terms are largely interchangeable. Both involve working with two partners to improve the relationship. The difference is mostly in how people search for it. I work with married couples, unmarried partners, and couples at any stage of commitment.
How do we get started?
Schedule a free 30-minute consultation and we will talk about what is bringing you in, what you are hoping to get out of therapy, and whether working together feels like a good fit. There is no commitment required to have that first conversation.
